From the daily work at small and mid-sized companies to the political debate in Pakhuis de Zwijger. What does the "AI Matrix" mean for the down-to-earth business owner?
Yesterday I was at the book talk for "The AI Matrix: Profits, Power, Politics" together with Rick Hermanns. At ai-werkers.nl we spend our days on AI that pays off directly on the shop floor, but it is worth looking at the technology from the critical side as well.
The evening in Amsterdam offered a solid counterweight. Where we mainly see time saved and efficiency, the focus there was on the power of Big Tech and the risks to society. Interesting, but also a touch abstract for the business owner who just wants his CRM fixed.
Three takeaways for the shop floor
1 Power and independence: AI is a geopolitical game of chess. As a small or mid-sized company you do not want to be led around by the major powers; you want your own, smart tools that protect your data.
2 Transparent AI: You take the sting out of criticism of algorithms by making them simple and transparent. We bring AI to SMEs in a human way: no hot air, just clear output.
3 Smart and ethical: The discussion about "parasitic innovation" reminds us that technology is meant to support people, not to replace them or spy on them.
